Animated logos have the power to draw attention and communicate messages in ways that a static logo can not. Anil Pamar proved just that by curating a selection of globally-known brands that have used animation successfully in their logo designs.

Vimeo’s video sharing platform uses video buttons such as play, pause to illustrate their service.

Instagram

The photo sharing app owned by Facebook combines the traditional camera and polaroid to form their text based logo.

LinkedIn

The professional network connects business people all over the world, which is conveyed by the bouncy man and case.

Uber

Building on the line ways points of a map, it creates a nice sequence to reveal the logo.

Fanta

The bubbly fun nature of the type and orange circle shape is brought to life with animation.

Nat Geo

The National Geographic’s famous yellow border is broken up and brought in piece by piece.

FedEx

A well known courier delivery service uses the arrow for demonstrating its service.

Burger King

The Burger King logo is animated in piece by piece, in a 3D manner.

Intel

]]> In photography and especially portrait photography, focal length (more specifically, the right lens at the right distance/positioning) and lighting can have a dramatic impact on the end result. Even the same person can look quite different depending on where the light source is and what lens/distance the photographer is shooting from.

In the 4 gifs below we can truly see the power of lighting and focal length.

And to further clarify and expand on ‘focal length’ the examples seen here use different lenses/focal lengths but maintain the same framing of the image, which behind the scenes would require the photographer to reposition the camera. If the camera was in a fixed position and lenses of different focal lengths were simply swapped out, the shots would just be parts of cat at different magnifications.

]]> New York-based artist Carl Burton blends elements of science fiction and surrealism to create stunning monochromatic GIFs/cinemagraphs that have a hypnotic, dream-like feel to them. He uses Cinema 4D, Photoshop and After Effects to create these animated illustrations that are “influenced by nature, architecture, mundane environments and the news,” he says.

Burton came up with this style while experimenting on his laptop at the NY public library. After honing his craft, he’s gone on to work with clients like VH1, ESPN, Serial (TV show), NY Times and Margaret Atwood to name a few. Check out his work below.
