The first time you see these hyperrealistic drawings, you’re convinced they’re black and white photographs. But on closer inspection, you realize they are just the work of a very talented artists and their pens and pencils. Using photos just for inspiration, they sets up basic proportions and then draws layer upon layer until they create their incredibly realistic portraits.

Hyperrealism is a genre of painting and sculpture resembling a high-resolution photograph. Hyperrealism is considered an advancement of Photorealism by the methods used to create the resulting paintings or sculptures. The term is primarily applied to an independent art movement and art style in the United States and Europe that has developed since the early 2000s. – Wikipedia

Dirk Dzimirsky
Mr Dzimirsky uses light and shadow to capture the picture and includes every single detail, from a wrinkle to a raindrop, to make his picture look so real.
He said: ‘I want to capture and describe a person’s presence and specific inner self.

Paul Cadden
Despite looking like they have been captured on a camera, these are actually hand-drawn images created by hyperrealist artist Paul Cadden. The 47-year-old, from Scotland, is able to recreate photos in amazing detail, often just using only a pencil. From the wrinkles on a woman’s face, a puff of smoke from a cigarette or dripping water – Cadden’s drawings look unbelievably realistic.

He said: “Inspiration comes from the phrase ‘to intensify the normal’.” I try to study the internal aspect of the image rather than focusing solely on the external part. I can fall in love with an image — if that doesn’t sound too hippy.

Roberto Bernardi
Italian-born artist Roberto Bernardi describes his work as hyperrealism, a meticulous branch of painting closely related to photorealism. Going by the examples available in his online gallery, Bernardi is an expert in painting still lifes of chrome, plastic, glass and candy — glossy textured objects that generally don’t lend themselves to being captured realistically in oil on canvas.

Rubén Belloso Adorno
Born and raised in Seville, Spain, Ruben Belloso Adorno attended the University of Seville and graduated with a degree in fine arts. Ruben uses pastels for his art, and tends to set his sights on close up portraits. Using pastels allows him to give his pieces a warmth that’s impressive even for a hyper realist.

He said: “I always use pastel. It is a technique that is between drawing and painting. Unfortunately not valued as it should be, but offers endless possibilities. First and foremost I use pastels, then I can apply them with a smudger or an old rag … to the fingertip. The pastel is a technique that i use between drawing and painting. I couldn’t really tell you if I paint more than I draw or I draw more than I paint.”

Robin Eley
Armed with a simple paintbrush he’s able to create photo-quality works of art that draw attention instantly.
Born in London, raised in Australia and educated in the United States, Robin Eley is a man of three continents. But more impressive than his life’s story and journey are his amazing hyper-realistic works. Most of the subjects depicted in his large-scale oil paintings are naked and wrapped in plastic foil, with each tiny detail of their bodies and countless reflection of their translucent covers expertly depicted by the artist.

He said: Inspired by history, I extract from the present. Artifacts and textures that reflect the beauty and nobility of decline and question the modern obsession with perfection. While my subjects and technique are intentionally very real, the context in which they are painted is less defined.
